For example, within the warrior caste are the infantry subcaste, MechWarrior subcaste and fighter pilot subcaste, among others. Ĭastes are further broken down into subcastes. In practice, a sixth caste - the Dark or Bandit Caste - exists for those who cannot or will not fit into Clan society. Officially, Clan society is comprised of five castes - Warriors, Scientists, Technicians, Merchants and Laborers. The Jade Falcons were notoriously more conservative in their interpretation. Most Clans recognized declaration had its place after just surviving the Exodus Civil War and the need to stamp out the last vestiges of rebellion, and so were more liberal with the supremacy of the Caste. It was, in short, the authorization for the Warriors to be the leaders of Clan society. The Grace of Preeminence Clause was a ruling by Nicholas Kerensky, supposedly in concert with Lisa Buhallin, that gave the Warrior Caste the legal power to act without any restraint, without any other consultation, and inflict up to capital punishment for any offense. All of those who became members of a Clan were assigned or tested into one of five castes. By the time the Clans returned to liberate the Pentagon in 2821, these old values had been replaced with a eugenics- and testing-based caste system. After he and his followers left behind the violence and chaos that had engulfed the Pentagon Worlds, Kerensky instituted several reforms that resulted in the erosion of nuclear families and free choice of career. The Clan caste system was devised by Nicholas Kerensky as an answer to the chronic greed and ethnic violence that he believed had irredeemably tainted the Star League in Exile. The Remembrance ( Clan Wolf), Passage 67, Verse 26, Lines 21-37 They shall have our cooperation and worship,įor they are the blood and soul of us all. They shall have our awe and our attention, Technicians to build and fix the machines:įor they are the fingers with which we grasp life. They shall have our commerce and respect,įor they are the bones upon which we are built. Laborers to till the land, to do the tasks: Upon which our true society was to be built. These aren’t my best paint job, but it does check off another project 2023 item, and it gets me into the game quickly as we have a decent pool of local players.Five, Nicholas proclaimed, was the foundation Simple so that when I get the future mechs I won’t mind revisiting the scheme. I’m making a local trade for that Wolf’s Dragoon IS mech set for some more Clan mechs, so I wanted this group to have a simple color scheme. Maybe think BzB to BB?Īnyway, above are my first set of painted mechs. It’s like a modern, fast-playing version of the game. Also, the availability of the Alpha Strike box, put me over the decision to re-buy into the game. I’ve always seen it as an odd counterpart to my beloved Blood Bowl in that they both run on rules that are, at their core, over 30 years old but have endured and both have strong fanbases carrying each through dark times of publisher mishap. I kinda respect this venerable setting/system though. It ended up being too crunchy for us, so the models were sold. At the time, my son was into Gundam, so I hoped this was something we could play together. It seems like the mechs end up getting all mixed in with the various factions.Īnyway, long time readers of the site will recall that I painted up some BT mechs almost four years ago. NOTE: I don’t think it ultimately matters for game play. The Clan Invasion box had only Clan Mechs, and the Alpha Strike box has both Clan and IS. Well, I trip to the LGS fixed that issue. Apparently, in the BT fluff, this Wolf guy was a Clanner who infiltrated the Inner Sphere using Inner Sphere mechs. Come to find out…that the “Wolf’s Dragoons Assault Star” is really a set of inner mechs in a Star (set of 5 mechs) formation. I know the core box above comes with ‘Inner Mechs’, so I added what I thought was a ‘Clan Star’ to the set. To be honest, I wasn’t really sure what I was buying. I went in looking for a second copy of the B&N exclusive Blitz Bowl: Ultimate Edition, but walked out with four boxes of Battletech. Barnes and Noble (one of the last, large North American book chains) recently ran a 50% off all boardgames sale. Here’s something a little different for WS&TZ.
